How
long has Omni been in the multilingual business?
Omni’s origins in the multilingual business
go back
to 1980, when it was founded under the name World
Technology Center
(WTC) as an agency of the State of Georgia. The purpose of WTC was
to provide a range of services aimed at assisting
companies to market and sell their products in
foreign markets. In 1991, WTC was taken over by
Omni Resource Group, Inc., which in turn was
purchased by its management in 2006 and renamed
OmniTechTrans to better reflect the services that
the company provides.
During our years in business, Omni has
successfully handled thousands of projects of almost every
conceivable type.

Does
Omni specialize in particular languages?
Omni provides a complete range of services
in virtually all industrial languages, including
Asian, Western, Eastern European, Middle-Eastern
and Scandinavian languages.

How
does Omni price translation work?
Translations are typically priced by the
word and per-word rates vary by language. Email
us electronic files of the content that requires
translation and we will carefully evaluate them.
Based on computer word counts and the characteristics
of the materials (subject matter, complexity,
amount of internal repetition, size, etc.), we
will provide you with an accurate up-front cost.
If no electronic word counts are available, we
can provide cost estimates based on hard copies.

Does
Omni use hourly rates?
Yes. Project support services such as
typesetting, graphic work, software localization,
testing, database management, to name but a few,
are invoiced based on actual hours. Desktop publishing,
localization engineering, interpreting, and most
other services are priced on an hourly basis.
Our extensive experience usually allows us to
accurately predict the time that will be required
to complete a particular project.

How
long will it take for Omni to complete my project?
Turnaround times are determined based
on the scope of the project. We understand that
our clients have their own deadlines to meet and
we work hard at getting them what they need, when
they need it, without sacrificing quality. Our
rate of on-time delivery is close to 100%, making
us one less thing to worry about.

What
kind of linguistic resources does Omni currently
have?
Omni maintains a regular pool of approximately
650 professional translators, editors, subject
matter experts and terminologists whose capabilities,
experience, education and performance have been
evaluated and confirmed by Omni.

Where
does project coordination take place?
Most all project coordination and support
tasks are handled centrally in Atlanta, Georgia.
Translation coordination for large projects which
are more “Europe Only” may be handled out of Milan,
Italy, or Brussels, Belgium.

Who
are Omni’s project managers?
Our project managers all have in-the-field
translation experience themselves, as well as
a minimum of 10 years of actual project management
experience. In addition to handling projects that
are general in nature, each project manager has
an area of specialization: software localization,
web localization, typesetting and production,
etc. Omni’s Project Managers have access to a
combination of detailed item lists and timelines
to ensure that components are handled in the proper
sequence, that items are completed and shipped
at the right times to the right people, and that
the right team members are brought online when
needed.

How
does Omni manage complex projects?
Every project component is assigned a
separate tracking number. This number remains
attached to the project from inception through
invoicing. Large, long-duration or highly fragmented
projects are given a main number - or identifier
- and separate project numbers are attached to
it. This allows us to accurately determine which
components belong to which project.
Omni also creates online inventory checklists
that allow project managers to keep track of where
individual components are in the workflow. For
example, in the case of a recently completed project,
the project manager had to keep track of approximately
40 training modules, each one comprising distinct
leader and participant guides, PowerPoint presentations
and support materials. Altogether, close to 450
individual components simultaneously flowed through
our system and both the project managers and support
staff knew at all times what the status of each
one of these components was.
Omni has great experience in handling large and
multifaceted projects and can handle these projects
in either one language at a time, or in a number
of languages simultaneously.

As
client, how do I know that services are performed
by qualified individuals?
Without exception, our team members are
all native speakers of the language that they
work into. In other words, a translator, reviewer,
or editor working on a Japanese project, must
be a native speaker of that language. Accreditations
and certifications are most useful in establishing
a baseline for the evaluation of a person’s skills.
They do not, however, provide a complete picture.
In addition to baseline professional skills, Omni
also evaluates a team member’s formal education,
technical skills, subject matter expertise and
consistent professionalism. This approach allows
us to closely match areas of expertise to project
requirements, and to select team members very
carefully. This is something that we feel very
strongly about!

What
computer platforms do you use?
Our goal is to be as compatible with our
clients as possible and work in the “native” formats
of the files that we receive from our clients.
We therefore use both PC (NT, 2000,
XP) and Macintosh Systems depending on project
requirements. All workstations are state-of-the-art.
In addition to Western
operating systems, we run Chinese, Japanese,
Korean, Thai and Arabic operating systems on PC,
Mac, or both. Omni consistently invests in the
best infrastructure possible for maximum compatibility
and to provide our clients with consistently high
quality results.

What
is Omni’s Software Environment?
Omni strives to always have the latest
releases of the applications that we use and requires
employees to stay current on the software packages
that they work with. We also keep abreast of the
latest releases of new applications that will
enhance our services and provide better results
for our customers.

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Photoshop,
Allaire Homesite, RoboHelp, Caere Omnipage,
Corel Draw, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia
Freehand, MS FrontPage, MS Office Pro and
QuarkXPress,
just to name a few. We also maintain a full complement
of specialized translation leverage and software
localization tools, both off the shelf and
proprietary.

Can
Omni provide certified translations?
Yes! We can certify and notarize hard
copies of our translations to make them appropriate
for legal and official purposes. There is no cost
for this service.
