Project Managers - He or she then selects translators based upon native language, specialty, credentials, and project needs, and creates a project timeline as well. The Project Manager also facilitates communication, file and database exchange, and consults with the translation team to resolve any issues that may arise and to ensure consistency of terminology and style. If approved terminology does not yet exist but is required, a glossary is developed by a terminologist and reviewed/approved by the client.
Once the translation process is underway, as a first line of defense against quality issues, translators are required to spell check and review their own translations before returning them to the Project Manager. In many instances, translators work within a team framework and will review each other's work as well.
Editors - Editors check the accuracy and completeness of the translations against the original versions. Errors and/or omissions are corrected and brought to the attention of the translator. Products are then reviewed separately to check formatting, as well as measurement conversions, punctuation and other details.
The project managers then review the final deliverables for overall presentation, completeness, and compliance with the project specifications.
Consultant Reviewers & Subject Matter Experts are representative of the intended end-users and may provide outside review to validate the appropriateness of the foreign language versions. For example, in the case of a legally binding code of business ethics that was ultimately translated in 28 languages, the translations were reviewed by legal experts in each of the target countries. In another case, a set of high-end marketing materials developed for several Asian countries, were reviewed in-country by persons employed in the industry that was targeted and their feedback was used for slight modifications to both the content and the layout of the final product.
